Are you looking for a Support role with a difference? Have you got experience in care but would like to progress in the area of sensory support? Do you live in Bristol & South Gloucestershire, Essex, London (North East and South West), Staffordshire, West Midlands and Merseyside. If so, we want to hear from you!
Here at Deafblind UK, we need Support Workers for upcoming positions to support and empower adults with a combined sight and hearing impairment to live and maintain their independent lifestyles. By supporting our clients in their lives it enables them to make meaningful choices.
So what actually would you being doing? In a typical day you could support clients with communication (great if you already can use 'Deafblind manual', if not we can train you). You would help clients access the local community (this could be going to the Deaf Club/swimming/the gym/shopping/going to the local pub/meals out/the theatre/basketball(!)/days out) or just staying in! Where needed (and this is not with all our clients) support could be with all aspects of their personal care needs. What we can say is that our support work is very varied!
The positions we have are mainly organised on a rota system to ensure continuity of service and will include days/evenings, but may also include weekend shifts. What we are able to do is ensure our support workers have a shift system which, where possible is planned well in advance so that you know when you are working. Of course, there are times when support is required at short notice for holiday cover/emergency support etc and we would like our staff to be flexible enough to be able to support at these times. As you would expect all positions are subject to an Enhanced CRB check. Training is provided and all new staff are required to complete the Skills for Care Common Inductions Standards if you haven’t already done them. They are fully transferrable. If you already have an Health and Social Care Certificate (or an NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care), great! If not, we would like you to gain this whilst working with us.
On occasion positions may require British Sign Language Level 1 or 2 as essential, so if you have this great, we'd love to hear from you! If a position requires direct support for a wheelchair user then we would require the applicants to be able, with training, to carry this type of support work.
With all of our support roles Clear Speech is essential to enable a good level of communication.
Due to the nature of this role applicants, for most positions, must have a full UK driving licence and use of a vehicle.
